Role Overview

As a UI/UX Director, you'll lead Studio20's UI/UX function across websites, web applications, mobile applications, SaaS platforms, and AI-driven products.

You'll be responsible for setting design direction, developing scalable design systems, guiding designers, and ensuring every digital experience is user-centred, technically feasible, and aligned with business objectives.

This role goes beyond design leadership, requiring strategic thinking, business problem-solving, hands-on design expertise, and the effective utilisation of AI tools to enhance design quality, productivity, and operational efficiency. You'll work closely with clients, project managers, developers, and internal stakeholders to identify challenges, recommend solutions, and deliver high-quality digital experiences.

You'll also be expected to drive AI adoption across the entire UI/UX function, including user research, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, design execution, and quality assurance. This involves identifying opportunities to automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows, accelerate delivery, and improve team productivity through AI-powered tools while maintaining usability, creativity, and professional design standards.

What You'll Do

1. UI/UX Strategy & Design Leadership

• Lead Studio20's UI/UX vision, design direction, and quality standards.

• Translate business objectives, user needs, and technical requirements into effective design strategies.

• Challenge assumptions and recommend better solutions based on research, user insights, and business outcomes.

• Take ownership of design quality, consistency, usability, and overall user experience.

• Drive continuous improvement in design strategy, decision-making, and team performance.

2. Product Design & User Experience

• Lead UI/UX design across websites, web applications, mobile applications, SaaS platforms, and AI-driven products.

• Oversee user research, journey mapping, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

• Translate complex business requirements into intuitive, scalable, and user-friendly digital experiences.

• Ensure designs are responsive, accessible, technically feasible, and aligned with business objectives.

• Evaluate product usability and recommend improvements based on user feedback, research, and performance insights.

3. UX Consultation & Business Problem-Solving

• Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand business challenges and digital experience objectives.

• Identify underlying usability issues, conversion gaps, and customer journey challenges before recommending solutions.

• Provide strategic UX recommendations that balance user needs, technical feasibility, and commercial considerations.

• Present and justify design decisions using research findings, logical reasoning, and measurable business outcomes.

• Confidently challenge client briefs and propose alternative solutions when necessary.

4. Team Leadership & Design Quality

• Provide strategic design direction, mentorship, and technical guidance to junior and mid-level UI/UX designers.

• Review design deliverables, provide constructive feedback, and ensure consistent design quality across projects.

• Lead design discussions, encourage innovative thinking, and integrate AI-powered tools to enhance creativity and execution.

• Manage task delegation, workload priorities, and design timelines to ensure efficient and timely project delivery.

• Take ownership of team performance, continuously improve design workflows, and leverage AI to automate repetitive tasks and increase productivity.

5. Design Systems & Cross-Functional Execution

• Establish, maintain, and continuously improve scalable design systems, UI libraries, and reusable components.

• Ensure consistency across typography, layouts, interaction patterns, accessibility, and responsive design.

• Collaborate closely with developers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth design-to-development handoffs.

• Improve design workflows, documentation, and review processes to reduce unnecessary revisions and rework.

• Identify design-related risks, resolve implementation challenges, and maintain delivery efficiency without compromising quality.

6. AI Integration & Design Process Optimisation

• Proactively explore, evaluate, and implement AI-powered tools across user research, ideation, prototyping, design execution, and quality assurance.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive design tasks, streamline documentation, and optimise daily workflows.

• Lead AI adoption within the UI/UX team by establishing practical workflows, sharing knowledge, and improving team capabilities.

• Leverage AI to accelerate design delivery, improve decision-making, and enhance productivity while maintaining design quality and professional judgment.

• Continuously evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend improvements that strengthen design efficiency, user experience, and business outcomes.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in UI/UX design, product design, or design leadership, with experience leading designers or design teams.

• Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UI/UX execution across websites, web applications, mobile applications, or SaaS products.

• Strong understanding of UX research, user journeys, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

• Experience establishing scalable design systems and maintaining consistent design standards.

• Advanced proficiency in Figma and modern UI/UX design tools.

• Strong understanding and practical experience utilising AI-powered tools to improve design workflows, productivity, and execution efficiency.

• Ability to translate complex business requirements into practical, user-centred solutions.

• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience collaborating with developers, project managers, and clients throughout the product development lifecycle.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, lead remote teams, and maintain high-quality delivery standards.

Bonus: Experience in digital agencies, SaaS platforms, AI-driven products, conversion-focused UX optimisation, or implementing AI-assisted design workflows.
