Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of mechanical engineering designs for Resindo's mining, mineral processing, metals, coal, bulk materials handling, process plant and associated industrial infrastructure projects. This is predominantly an office-based engineering design position intended for graduate engineers who wish to develop their professional career specifically in mechanical design engineering. Working under the guidance and mentorship of experienced Mechanical Engineers and Discipline Leaders, the Graduate Engineer will progressively develop the capability to undertake mechanical engineering calculations, equipment selection and sizing, engineering analysis and modelling, and prepare datasheets, specifications, reports and detailed design documentation using modern engineering software and design tools.

A significant part of Resindo's mechanical engineering work involves bulk materials handling systems, particularly conveyors, transfer points and chutes, crushing and screening systems and associated mechanical equipment. The Graduate Engineer will develop specialist knowledge in these areas while also gaining broader experience across process plant mechanical equipment, piping and general heavy industrial mechanical engineering. The position forms part of Resindo's Mechanical Engineering team; however, almost all projects are multidisciplinary. The Graduate Engineer will work closely with Process, Civil & Structural, Electrical & Instrumentation, Project Management, Drafting and other engineering personnel to understand how mechanical systems are integrated into complete process plants and industrial facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Work under the guidance of Senior Engineers and Discipline Leaders to develop mechanical engineering designs from concept through to detailed design

• Develop practical engineering skills in calculations, equipment selection, modelling, layout development and preparation of engineering documentation

• Assist with mechanical engineering design for bulk materials handling systems, belt conveyors, conveyor drives and take-up systems, transfer points and transfer chutes, feeders, crushers, screens, hoppers and bins, pumps, tanks and vessels, process and utility piping, mechanical equipment packages, and plant services and associated mechanical systems

• Develop an understanding of equipment arrangement, access, maintenance, operability and constructability requirements

• Assist with equipment selection and sizing based on process requirements and applicable engineering standards

• Develop specialist knowledge in the design and application of belt conveyor systems used in mining, mineral processing and coal facilities

• Learn and progressively become proficient in recognised conveyor design and modelling software, including the software tools used by Resindo

• Assist with the development and review of transfer chute arrangements and bulk material flow paths

• Develop competency in chute modelling and materials flow analysis using applicable engineering software tools

• Undertake mechanical engineering calculations and analysis under the supervision of experienced engineers

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university

• Fresh graduate to maximum approximately 2 years' relevant professional experience

• Candidates with previous employment experience must have gained that experience predominantly in mechanical engineering design

• Strong academic foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, machine design, fluid mechanics and engineering materials

• Exposure to mechanical engineering analysis, CAD, conveyor design or other engineering software through university or previous design employment is advantageous

• Strong interest in developing competency in modern mechanical engineering analysis, modelling and design software

• Particular interest in conveyors, chutes, bulk materials handling systems, crushing and screening equipment and process plant mechanical design is highly desirable

• Good analytical and numerical ability with strong attention to detail

• Good Microsoft Office capability and good written and spoken English

• Ability to work effectively within both a Mechanical discipline team and larger multidisciplinary engineering teams
