Accounting Assistant Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Finance & Accounting Assistant Manager to support the financial management and accounting operations of a laboratory services company in Indonesia.

This role will assist in ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, cash flow management, and timely completion of accounting activities. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance & Accounting team, laboratory operations, commercial teams, procurement, and management to maintain the financial integrity of the business.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, experience with Indonesian tax and accounting requirements, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting and Accounting Operations

  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.

  • Review general ledger accounts, journal entries, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.

  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate unusual or outstanding items.

  • Assist with the month-end and year-end closing processes.

  • Prepare financial analysis and management reports, including revenue, cost, expense, profitability, and variance analysis.

  • Ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and submitted within established deadlines.

  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and management reporting packages.

2. Accounts Receivable and Revenue

  • Monitor customer invoicing, collections, and accounts receivable aging.

  • Ensure laboratory testing services are billed accurately and on time.

  • Coordinate with the commercial, customer service, and laboratory operations teams to resolve billing discrepancies.

  • Review credit notes, customer adjustments, and revenue-related transactions.

  • Prepare regular reports on outstanding receivables, collection performance, and overdue accounts.

  • Support the development and implementation of effective credit control procedures.

3. Accounts Payable

  • Review supplier invoices, purchase orders, goods/service receipts, and supporting documents.

  • Ensure vendor payments are processed accurately and in accordance with approved payment terms.

  • Monitor accounts payable aging and support cash flow planning.

  • Coordinate with procurement and operational teams to resolve invoice and payment issues.

  • Review employee expense claims and ensure compliance with company policies.

  • Maintain accurate supplier records and payment documentation.

4. Budgeting and Financial Planning

  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process.

  • Prepare budget versus actual analysis and identify significant variances.

  • Work with department heads to improve cost control and financial performance.

  • Provide financial insights to support business and operational decision-making.

  • Assist in monitoring capital expenditure, operational expenses, and project costs.

5. Tax and Regulatory Compliance

  • Support the preparation and submission of Indonesian tax reports and documentation.

  • Assist with compliance related to VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax, and other applicable tax obligations.

  • Coordinate with internal and external tax advisors, auditors, and government authorities when required.

  • Ensure accounting records and tax documents are properly maintained and readily available for review.

  • Monitor changes in Indonesian tax regulations and assess their potential impact on the business.

  • Support tax audits and other regulatory reviews.

6. Internal Controls and Audit

  • Implement and maintain effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Identify control weaknesses and recommend improvements.

  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and authorization procedures.

  • Support internal, external, and statutory audits.

  • Prepare audit schedules and provide supporting documentation to auditors.

  • Follow up on audit findings and assist in implementing corrective actions.

  • Promote compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and financial control requirements.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, audit, or a related field.

  • Experience in a laboratory, healthcare, pharmaceutical, environmental testing, manufacturing, professional services, or other service-based industry is preferred.

  • Experience managing month-end closing, financial reporting, budgeting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and tax compliance.

  • Experience working with external auditors and tax consultants.

  • Experience with multi-branch, multi-site, or group-company operations is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

  • Good knowledge of Indonesian accounting standards and tax regulations.

  • Strong knowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, cash flow, and reconciliations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, lookup functions, data analysis, and financial modeling.

  • Experience with accounting or ERP systems

  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare clear management reports.

  • Understanding of internal controls, audit procedures, and compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of laboratory service revenue cycles and project or contract billing is an advantage.

  • Regular interaction with laboratory operations, commercial teams, procurement, human resources, management, auditors, customers, suppliers, and tax authorities.

  • Occasional travel to branches, laboratory sites, or customer locations may be required.

  • The role may require extended working hours during month-end closing, budgeting, audit, or tax reporting periods.
