Specialist Product Designer & Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Specialist Product Designer & Engineer to join PT. Idelux Furniture Indonesia on a contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leadership role in our product development initiatives, based in Semarang, Central Java. As a Specialist Product Designer & Engineer, you will be at the forefront of creating innovative furniture solutions that blend aesthetic appeal with functional engineering excellence. Your work will directly influence the company's product portfolio and market competitiveness, making this a strategically important position within our design and engineering operations.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the conceptualisation, design and development of new furniture products, from initial ideation through to market launch

• Conduct comprehensive market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends and opportunities in the furniture industry

• Create detailed technical drawings, 3D models and prototypes using industry-standard design software and engineering tools

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance and marketing to ensure designs are both innovative and commercially viable

• Perform structural analysis and material testing to ensure products meet safety standards and performance requirements

• Optimise designs for manufacturability, cost-efficiency and sustainability whilst maintaining design integrity

• Develop and maintain comprehensive product specifications and technical documentation

• Mentor junior designers and engineers, providing guidance on best practices in industrial design and product engineering

• Stay current with emerging design technologies, materials and manufacturing processes

• Present design concepts and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

• Minimum 5–7 years of professional experience in FURNITURE industrial design or product engineering

• Strong proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent, as well as design visualisation tools

• Proven expertise in furniture design principles, including ergonomics, structural integrity and material selection

• Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling requirements and production constraints relevant to furniture manufacturing

• Excellent knowledge of materials used in furniture production, including wood, metals, textiles and composites

• Strong problem-solving abilities and creative thinking with an eye for detail and aesthetic design

• Excellent communication skills in English
