About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Sanitarian to join our environmental health and safety team at RS Sedayu General Hospital in Bantul, Yogyakarta. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the sanitary and environmental conditions throughout our healthcare facility. As a Sanitarian, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring environmental health standards, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and protecting the health and safety of patients, staff, and visitors. This position is integral to our mission of providing a safe, hygienic healthcare environment and represents a key component of our operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections and assessments of hospital facilities, including patient wards, operating theatres, kitchens, waste management areas, and support services to ensure compliance with sanitary standards

• Monitor and manage waste segregation, treatment, and disposal protocols to ensure environmental safety and regulatory compliance

• Develop, implement, and maintain sanitation and hygiene policies and procedures across the hospital

• Coordinate with departments to ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilisation practices are consistently followed

• Conduct training and awareness programmes for staff on sanitary practices, infection control, and environmental health standards

• Investigate and document sanitary violations, non-compliance issues, and environmental health hazards

• Maintain detailed records of inspections, corrective actions, and compliance documentation

• Collaborate with public health authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure the hospital meets all legal requirements and standards

• Monitor water quality and supply systems to ensure safe drinking and utility water throughout the facility

• Assess and manage pest control and vector prevention programmes

• Review and recommend improvements to environmental health and safety practices based on best practices and emerging standards

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in Environmental Health, Sanitation Engineering, Public Health, or a related discipline

• Relevant professional certification or registration as a Sanitarian or Environmental Health Officer

• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in sanitation, environmental health, or public health roles, preferably in a healthcare setting

• Strong knowledge of environmental health regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to healthcare facilities

• Proficiency in waste management, infection control, and occupational health and safety principles

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to train staff and communicate findings to management and regulatory bodies

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation

• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across various hospital departments

• Problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement practical solutions to environmental health challenges

• Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of evolving environmental health standards
