About the role

The Mandarin Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective Mandarin language instruction with a strong emphasis on listening and speaking skills, followed by reading and writing development. The main learning goal is to help students understand and confidently use Mandarin in simple daily conversations. The teacher is expected to demonstrate accurate pronunciation and Shēngdiào (Chinese tones), as proper tones and pronunciation are essential in developing students' communicative competence.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver language-acquisition-based Mandarin lessons rather than relying primarily on traditional memorization or textbook-driven methods

• Use games, visual aids, real-life situations, role-play, songs, interactive activities, and other creative teaching strategies to encourage students to listen, understand, and speak Mandarin naturally

• Develop lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments based on the curriculum and learning objectives provided by the school

• Design and implement Mandarin-based projects that allow students to apply the language meaningfully through presentations, performances, role-play, storytelling, collaborative tasks, or other authentic learning experiences

• Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages students to participate and communicate confidently in Mandarin

• Monitor students' language development and provide appropriate feedback and support

• Extend Mandarin learning beyond the classroom by spearheading initiatives that encourage students to use Mandarin naturally in their daily school life

• Continuously improve teaching strategies through reflection, professional learning, collaboration, and innovation

About you

• S1 or S2 qualification

• Passionate about education and genuinely enjoys working with children

• Good digital literacy and able to operate computers confidently for daily teaching and administrative purposes

• Proficient in using Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, or similar presentation tools to prepare teaching materials and classroom presentations

• Able and willing to learn, operate, and integrate Mandarin learning applications and other digital learning platforms required by the school into classroom instruction, assignments, practice, and student progress monitoring

• Able to use basic digital tools for lesson preparation, student assessment, communication, documentation, and reporting

• YCT, HSK certification or other recognized evidence of Mandarin proficiency is preferred

• Creative and willing to explore non-traditional and innovative approaches to Mandarin teaching

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Proactive and able to take initiative, including spearheading Mandarin-related programs and activities beyond the classroom
