Operations Director (Tug & Barge Shipping)

We are seeking an experienced Group Operations Director to lead and optimize operational performance across our group of businesses. This is a group-level role covering multiple industries; one of our largest and most strategic business units is in Tug & Barge shipping, so candidates with a strong shipping and marine operations background are strongly preferred. Candidates with broad multi-industry operational leadership experience are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee operational performance across the group's business units

• Drive operational efficiency, asset/fleet utilization, and performance targets group-wide

• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry requirements across business lines (including marine/port regulations for the shipping unit)

• Standardize operational processes, KPIs, and reporting across the group

• Lead, mentor, and develop large operational teams across multiple business units and sites

• Partner with commercial and finance leadership to support business growth and profitability at the group level

• Report on operational KPIs, risk, and performance to senior leadership/board

• Develop and implement SOPs, safety management systems, and continuous improvement initiatives across the portfolio

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Business, Engineering, or related field)

• Proven leadership experience as a Director, General Manager, Head of Operations, or equivalent senior management role

• Strong operational, commercial, and financial acumen

• Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi-site operational teams and drive business growth

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills

• Experience operating across multiple industries or business units is welcomed

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the shipping industry, with significant exposure to Tug & Barge operations

• Proven experience in senior leadership positions such as Director, General Manager, Head of Operations, or equivalent

• Experience serving as a Director in industries outside shipping is considered an advantage

• Strong understanding of marine regulations, vessel operations, port logistics, and fleet management

• Demonstrated ability to improve fleet efficiency, vessel utilization, safety performance, and profitability
