About the Role

ILON Academy is looking for an experienced MYP Coordinator to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our developing Middle Years Programme.

This is a key academic leadership opportunity for an educator who enjoys building programmes, developing teachers, strengthening systems, and improving student learning.

As a founding middle-years academic leader, you will work closely with the Head of School & Operations, Deputy Head of School (Academic), subject teachers, and school leadership to establish a coherent, academically rigorous programme that integrates international educational practice with Indonesia’s National Curriculum.

You will also play a key role in preparing ILON Academy for the future implementation and authorisation of the IB Middle Years Programme, where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of ILON Academy’s Middle Years Programme.

• Develop a coherent and academically rigorous curriculum aligned with the school’s educational vision and Indonesia’s National Curriculum.

• Lead preparation for future implementation and authorisation of the IB Middle Years Programme.

• Oversee curriculum mapping, unit planning, interdisciplinary learning, Approaches to Learning, assessment, reporting, and student agency.

• Strengthen progression in subject knowledge, conceptual understanding, academic language, research, and independent learning.

• Support teachers in inquiry-based and concept-based learning, differentiation, assessment, feedback, and effective classroom practice.

• Lead collaborative planning, curriculum review, standardisation, and moderation across subject areas.

• Monitor the quality and consistency of curriculum planning, assessment, reporting, and academic documentation.

• Establish systems for monitoring student achievement, wellbeing, intervention, and readiness for senior secondary study.

• Lead transition planning from Primary into Middle Years and from Middle Years into future senior-secondary pathways.

• Develop programme policies, handbooks, procedures, and quality-assurance systems.

• Lead and support teacher professional learning, coaching, induction, and curriculum development.

• Contribute to the recruitment and evaluation of Middle Years teachers.

• Guide students and parents regarding programme expectations, academic progress, pathways, and transition requirements.

• Work with school leadership on staffing, timetable design, resources, and long-term programme development.

• Promote appropriate and responsible use of technology and AI in teaching and learning.

• Undertake a limited teaching load in an area of expertise where required.

• Uphold ILON Academy’s expectations for safeguarding, child protection, academic integrity, professional conduct, and data privacy.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject area, together with a recognised teaching qualification.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in MYP or a comparable international middle-years programme.

• Experience working in an international or English-medium school environment.

• Previous experience as an MYP Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Cambridge Coordinator, Head of Department, Curriculum Coordinator, or equivalent academic leadership role is strongly preferred.

• Strong understanding of middle-years curriculum design, conceptual learning, interdisciplinary learning, assessment, and student progression.

• Strong knowledge of the MYP framework, including:

  • key and related concepts;

  • global contexts;

  • Approaches to Learning;

  • inquiry and conceptual learning;

  • interdisciplinary learning;

  • MYP assessment criteria;

  • standardisation and moderation.

• Demonstrated ability to coach teachers, lead collaborative planning, strengthen assessment practices, and manage educational change.

• Excellent spoken and written English.

• Strategic yet hands-on, organised, reflective, collaborative, and comfortable building systems from the ground up.

Additional Advantages

• Master’s degree in Education or a relevant field.

• Experience leading an IB authorisation, evaluation, or programme-development process.

• Relevant IB Category 2 or Category 3 professional development.

• Experience establishing a new secondary programme or school division.

• Experience aligning an IB or international programme with Indonesia’s National Curriculum.

• Experience with Cambridge or another recognised international middle-years curriculum.

• Familiarity with ManageBac, Google Workspace, school information systems, and assessment-data platforms.

• Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia.
