Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Engineer
Preventive Maintenance, Asset Lifecycle & Owner Estimate
About Champoil
Champoil is an industrial oil and chemical processing company focused on building scalable, efficient, and high-performance operations. We continuously improve our manufacturing systems by combining engineering excellence, structured problem solving, and data-driven decision making to create production processes that are reliable, maintainable, and ready for future expansion.
Role Overview
This role is responsible for building and improving mechanical maintenance and reliability systems to ensure production assets remain reliable, maintainable, and cost-effective throughout their lifecycle.
The role covers preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, mechanical condition assessment, critical spare part strategy, maintenance cost engineering, asset lifecycle planning, and reliability monitoring.
The focus is not only on keeping equipment running, but on understanding why assets fail, improving the way maintenance decisions are made, and building systems that reduce recurring failures while controlling total cost of ownership.
The asset scope includes production and supporting equipment such as agitators, gearboxes, pumps, tanks, piping systems, and related utilities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance System Design & Preventive Maintenance Planning
Build maintenance frameworks based on asset function, criticality, failure mechanisms, utilization, and operating conditions
Develop maintenance plans, schedules, checklists, and inspection standards for different asset categories
Define inspection objectives, methods, acceptance criteria, resource requirements, and required follow-up actions for each maintenance activity
Control preventive maintenance execution and evaluate its effectiveness against actual equipment failures and operational conditions
Predictive Maintenance & Early Failure Detection
Determine relevant condition-monitoring parameters such as vibration, temperature, lubrication condition, leakage, wear, and equipment performance
Develop equipment baselines, condition trends, and early failure indicators to determine when further inspection or maintenance action is required
Convert monitoring findings into actionable maintenance work with clear priority, PIC, target completion, spare part requirements, and verification criteria
Corrective Maintenance Ownership & Repair Coordination
Take end-to-end ownership of corrective maintenance activities, from problem clarification and urgency assessment to scope definition and equipment handover
Coordinate repair activities with Operations, internal technicians, vendors, and relevant functions
Establish completion targets based on operational impact, technical requirements, resource readiness, and field conditions
Monitor progress, resolve execution constraints, and verify that repaired equipment meets the required functional and reliability standards before closing the work
Mechanical Assessment & Root Cause Engineering
Assess the condition of mechanical components and systems, including bearings, shafts, seals, couplings, gearboxes, mounting systems, lubrication systems, and related components
Analyze recurring failures to distinguish whether the root cause originates from equipment design, installation, operation, maintenance practices, or operating environment
Develop corrective actions that address the underlying cause rather than only replacing failed components
Translate findings into improvements to inspection standards, equipment specifications, or maintenance methods to prevent recurrence
Owner Estimate & Maintenance Cost Engineering
Prepare Owner Estimates (OE) for maintenance and repair work based on technical requirements rather than simply adopting vendor quotations
Break down work into material, spare parts, fabrication or machining, manpower, equipment, mobilization, installation, testing, and commissioning requirements as applicable
Establish traceable bases for quantity, productivity assumptions, pricing sources, and cost uncertainties
Evaluate vendor quotations against comparable scope and specifications
Review the reasonableness of additional work and compare estimates against actual costs to improve future maintenance cost benchmarks
Critical Spare Part Strategy & Asset Standardization
Determine critical spare parts based on failure impact, lead time, availability of alternatives, usage patterns, and operational downtime risk
Establish minimum stock requirements and replenishment rules together with relevant functions
Balance maintenance readiness with the risk of excessive inventory
Develop component and equipment standardization to improve interchangeability, maintainability, and consistency across operating units while maintaining technical suitability for each application
Maintenance Data, CMMS & Reliability Monitoring
Build and maintain asset registers, equipment histories, maintenance logs, work orders, component lists, inspection records, and repair documentation
Utilize CMMS or equivalent maintenance systems to ensure maintenance activities and costs remain traceable to assets, failure causes, corrective actions, and results
Analyze downtime, MTBF, MTTR, recurring failures, maintenance compliance, and asset-level maintenance costs
Translate reliability data into maintenance priorities and improvement actions rather than using the data only for reporting or dashboard purposes
Asset Lifecycle, TCO & Replacement Planning
Develop asset lifecycle strategies covering procurement, operation, maintenance, refurbishment, upgrading, and replacement
Evaluate repair, reconditioning, overhaul, upgrade, and replacement options based on technical condition, reliability, operational requirements, risk, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
Prepare replacement and investment recommendations using traceable technical and financial considerations
Include installation costs, future maintenance requirements, spare part availability, and potential operational disruption when evaluating asset replacement decisions
Maintenance Readiness & Cross-Functional Alignment
Align maintenance schedules with Operations to ensure maintenance activities can be performed at the appropriate time with controlled production disruption
Ensure scope, spare parts, tools, manpower, vendors, work procedures, and testing criteria are ready before maintenance activities begin
Collaborate with Supply Chain, Finance, Process Engineering, Innovation, Operations, and other relevant functions to improve maintainability, control costs, and prepare asset requirements for future CHAMPOIL expansion
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent mechanical engineering competency
Experience in mechanical maintenance, maintenance planning, reliability engineering, or asset management within manufacturing or process industry environments
Strong understanding of mechanical equipment functions and failure mechanisms, including rotating equipment, transmission systems, bearings, seals, shafts, couplings, lubrication systems, and supporting components
Ability to develop and manage preventive maintenance plans, including asset criticality, failure modes, inspection intervals, resource requirements, priorities, and acceptance criteria
Ability to independently develop Owner Estimates based on work scope, quantity, specifications, manpower, work methods, and traceable cost sources
Experience evaluating vendor quotations and explaining differences between estimated and actual maintenance costs
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment datasheets, OEM manuals, and Bills of Materials (BOM)
Ability to translate technical documentation into inspection requirements, repair requirements, spare part needs, and work specifications
Strong data analysis skills using spreadsheets and CMMS or equivalent maintenance systems
Understanding of FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, MTBF, MTTR, downtime analysis, and maintenance cost history
Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions, risks, cost requirements, alternatives, and operational consequences clearly
Strong ownership and problem-solving capability with the ability to follow maintenance activities through to verified completion
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in lubricant, grease, chemical processing, or manufacturing industries with comparable equipment and operating environments
Experience building or improving CMMS, asset registers, equipment BOMs, critical spare part lists, or reliability databases from incomplete documentation
Experience using vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, or other condition-monitoring methods to support maintenance decisions
Experience creating mechanical drawings or repair/fabrication details using CAD, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and inspection requirements
Experience developing shutdown plans, lifecycle cost models, repair-versus-replace analyses, or equipment/component standardization programs
Relevant training or certification in maintenance, reliability, mechanical inspection, condition monitoring, or cost estimating, supported by practical application
Success Indicators
Identify priority assets, current equipment conditions, major recurring failures, and the most urgent maintenance needs during the first month
Establish and begin executing an initial maintenance plan for priority assets using available equipment and maintenance data
Ensure open corrective maintenance activities have clear PICs, priorities, completion targets, and required actions
Develop maintenance scopes, task lists, spare part requirements, and acceptance criteria that can be directly used by maintenance personnel or vendors
Establish Owner Estimates for selected maintenance activities that can be used to evaluate vendor quotations and control scope changes
Map critical spare parts and identify availability risks affecting maintenance readiness
Ensure completed repair activities are supported by inspection or testing evidence before being considered closed
Demonstrate measurable improvement in priority equipment performance, such as reduced recurring failures, more controlled recovery time, or improved equipment stability
Compare actual maintenance costs against Owner Estimates for comparable scopes and use the findings to improve future cost benchmarks
Develop technically and financially traceable recommendations for repair, overhaul, upgrade, or replacement of selected assets
Translate lessons learned from completed maintenance activities into updated maintenance plans, equipment specifications, critical spare lists, or cost benchmarks
Build maintenance systems and standards that remain useful beyond individual repair activities and can support future CHAMPOIL operating units or site expansion
Who Would Thrive in This Role?
This role is suited for an engineer who wants to understand why machines fail, rather than simply identify which component needs to be replaced.
You enjoy connecting field conditions, mechanical analysis, maintenance planning, and cost considerations. You are comfortable challenging assumptions, validating technical recommendations with evidence, and following a repair through until its results can be demonstrated.
You also see technical experience as something that should become a system: knowledge that can be shared with the team, standards that can be repeated, and decisions that become better over time.
Why Join CHAMPOIL?
We believe industrial operations should continuously move forward. That is why equipment uptime is something that must be deliberately built, maintained, and improved.
At CHAMPOIL, you will have the opportunity to connect mechanical engineering with real operational impact: keeping production reliable, extending asset life, reducing recurring maintenance work, and using materials, energy, and costs more responsibly.
We value innovation that starts with understanding the machine and is proven in the field. The best solution does not always mean buying new equipment it can be a more accurate diagnosis, a better repair method, or a maintenance system that prevents the same problem from happening again.
Understand the machine. Prove the improvement. Protect its reliability.
