Automation & Instrumentation Engineer

About the role

This role involves supporting and maintaining industrial automation control systems, including PLC/DCS/HMI programming, industrial communication networks, electrical panel maintenance, and system troubleshooting. The position requires coordination with operations, electrical, instrument, and maintenance teams to ensure reliable system performance and compliance with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support troubleshooting on PLC/DCS/HMI and control logic, including loop checking, interlock testing, and alarm review

• Develop, modify, and perform regular backups on PLC programs and HMI/SCADA interfaces

• Maintain industrial communication networks (DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, EtherNet/IP) to ensure stable data transmission between control panels and central control room

• Monitor and maintain electrical components within control panels (contactors, relays, fuses, surge arresters, UPS) and ensure stable low-voltage power distribution to control systems

• Respond to emergency calls during breakdowns, analyse control system failures through Root Cause Analysis, and recommend reliability and standardization improvements

• Coordinate actively with Operations, Electrical/Instrument technicians, vendors, and Maintenance teams for commissioning, calibration, and field problem resolution

• Manage spare parts inventory, identify stock requirements, and update control system documentation, backups, change records, cause-and-effect logic, and technical/as-built drawings

• Ensure all work complies with LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), electrical safety, cybersecurity, basic access control, change management, and installation regulations

About you

• Deep understanding of PLC/DCS platforms, HMI/SCADA, and control loops

• Proficient in programming Siemens (S7-1200/1500, TIA Portal), Schneider (Modicon), or Allen-Bradley platforms, and SCADA/HMI software such as WinCC, Wonderware InTouch, or FactoryTalk

• Able to read control logic, P&ID/interface drawings, I/O lists, and loop diagrams, and troubleshoot field-control system issues

• Able to read and design schematic drawings (AutoCAD Electrical/EPLAN)

• Understanding of motor protection systems (3-phase), soft starters, and VFD parameterisation

• Proficient in calibration and troubleshooting of sensors (load cell, ultrasonic/radar level, RTD/Thermocouple, proximity switch, limit switch)

• Understanding of pneumatic systems and solenoid valve operations

• Knowledge of SCADA data integration to ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) via OPC/Database SQL protocols is advantageous

• Electrical K3 certification is preferred

• Understanding of electrical panel compliance standards and PUIL (Persyaratan Umum Instalasi Listrik) regulations
