About the role

Create 3D models based on briefs, sketches, reference images, or product development requirements. Develop 3D product designs for merchandise, collectibles, miniatures, figures, accessories, components, and other custom products. Ensure 3D models meet technical requirements for 3D printing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Create 3D models based on brief, sketches, reference images, or product development needs

• Develop 3D product designs for merchandise, collectibles, miniatures, figures, accessories, components, and custom products

• Ensure models meet technical requirements for 3D printing processes

• Check model geometry, wall thickness, detail, dimensions, and potential printing errors

• Repair models when issues are found such as mesh holes, non-manifold geometry, surface problems, or unprintable shapes

• Prepare and export model files to required formats such as STL, 3MF, or OBJ

• Collaborate with 3D printer operators to adjust designs according to machine type, material, print orientation, support, and finishing needs

• Revise designs based on test print results and product quality evaluation

• Create documentation of models, dimensions, design versions, and final files for production

• Research and develop modeling techniques to improve product quality, efficiency, and aesthetics

About you

• Minimum D3/S1 education in Product Design, Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, Animation, Multimedia, or related field

• Minimum 1 year experience in 3D modeling or relevant portfolio

• Fresh graduates may be considered if they have good technical skills and portfolio

• Master at least one 3D modeling software such as Blender, Fusion 360, Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, or similar

• Understand workflow from 3D model creation to file preparation for 3D printing

• Understand concepts of mesh, polygon, topology, manifold geometry, wall thickness, and dimensional tolerance

• Able to check and repair models before printing

• Understand 3D file formats and export processes for production

• Meticulous with high attention to detail

• Have problem-solving ability and technical thinking

Portfolio Criteria

Candidates must submit a portfolio demonstrating:

1. 3D models previously created.

2. The ability to create complex details and shapes.

3. Examples of models successfully printed using a 3D printer, if available.

4. Examples of model refinements or optimizations for printing purposes.

5. An explanation of the software used and the candidate's contribution to each project.

6. A portfolio featuring actual printed models is preferred over visual renders alone.

Preferred Candidate Criteria

1. Experience designing figures, miniatures, collectibles, accessories, or custom merchandise.

2. Understanding of the differences between modeling for visualization and modeling for physical production.

3. Experience conducting test prints and refining designs based on production results.

4. Ability to consider material usage efficiency, support requirements, and ease of finishing.

5. Ability to create models that are both aesthetic and functional.
