Principal AI Engineering Lead

About the role

The Principal AI Engineering Lead is responsible for leading technical development, improving engineering practices, and supporting the implementation of scalable AI-powered solutions and automation workflows. The role combines hands-on software development, technical leadership, solution design, and team development to improve software quality, security, maintainability, and delivery performance. The position works closely with process analysts, developers, product teams, DevSecOps, quality assurance, and project management to translate business processes into technical solutions and support the deployment of AI-enabled applications across multiple markets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead software development activities through hands-on coding, code reviews, solution design, and the implementation of engineering standards and best practices

• Apply reusable AI engineering patterns, evaluation frameworks, model integration standards, and monitoring practices to develop reliable, scalable, and production-ready AI solutions

• Incorporate secure-by-design principles and responsible AI practices throughout solution design, data handling, model integration, deployment, and ongoing operations

• Translate business process maps and requirements into technical specifications, system designs, and implementation plans

• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, design decisions, and other relevant engineering records

• Analyze workflow dependencies, identify reusable components, and support the development and improvement of automation workflows and applications

• Lead, coach, and support engineers and technical leads, promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and effective engineering practices

• Improve development processes, team operating models, delivery discipline, code quality, and the adoption of consistent engineering standards

• Work with DevSecOps, quality assurance, product, and project management teams to strengthen release governance, dependency management, and delivery predictability

• Communicate technical progress, risks, limitations, and trade-offs to business stakeholders and provide clear updates during project and program meetings

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field

• At least eight years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of three years in a technical leadership or engineering management role with continued hands-on coding responsibilities

• Strong full-stack software development capabilities, including backend development, APIs, and frontend development as required

• Experience leading enterprise-scale AI engineering initiatives, covering solution design, experimentation, evaluation, integration, deployment, and support

• Strong understanding of engineering governance, including secure software development lifecycle (SDLC), code reviews, CI/CD, automated testing, environment management, release readiness, and operational support

• Working knowledge of AI and machine learning integration, including prompt engineering, API orchestration, Document AI/OCR, and embedding models

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Proven ability to translate business processes and requirements into technical solutions within a services or enterprise environment

• Experience leading and developing engineering teams, ideally comprising four to ten team members

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
