About the role
At Int Labs, we develop business simulations that help participants learn by making decisions, experiencing their consequences, and reflecting on the results. At the core of every simulation is a financial and business model that determines how each decision plays out.
We are looking for a Financial Modelling Analyst to build the models that power these simulations. You will work closely with our consultants and facilitators to translate business concepts and learning objectives into robust financial models, define the logic that links participants' decisions to business outcomes, and develop those models into interactive simulations for corporate training programmes.
Your background could be in financial modelling, consulting, research, or investment, but coupled with software development capabilities. You are comfortable structuring P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow models, and you can bring those models to life through code. What matters most is your ability to turn a business problem into a sound, logical model, and then into a working simulation.
Key responsibilities
Translate business concepts into simulation mechanics. Work with consultants to define participant decisions, business scenarios, rules, and outcomes that support the intended learning objectives.
Build and refine simulation models. Develop the calculations and logic connecting participant decisions to financial, operational, market, or organisational outcomes.
Develop interactive applications. Build and improve simulation features, including decision interfaces, calculation engines, dashboards, and facilitator controls.
Prototype and test ideas. Use spreadsheets, code, and working prototypes to explore concepts, test assumptions, and refine the participant experience.
Validate accuracy and gameplay. Check calculations, investigate unexpected results, test edge cases, and balance mechanics so that outcomes are credible and learning remains meaningful.
Support programme delivery. Help prepare simulations for training sessions, troubleshoot technical issues, and incorporate feedback from facilitators and participants.
Create reusable components. Document model assumptions, business rules, and code so simulations can be maintained and adapted across clients and programmes.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, Statistics, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Candidates with equivalent practical experience are also welcome.
Relevant experience in software development, financial modelling, consulting, research, investment analysis, business analysis, or a related field.
Practical coding ability in JavaScript or TypeScript, demonstrated through professional, academic, or personal projects. Our simulations are built entirely in TypeScript.
Experience building web applications with Node.js, Express, React, and MongoDB (the MERN stack), or a strong equivalent you can transfer quickly.
A solid understanding of core business and financial concepts, including revenue, costs, profitability, cash flow, and the trade-offs involved in business decisions.
The ability to structure P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow models, and to understand how the three statements link together.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial modelling, scenario analysis, and sensitivity testing.
The ability to translate business scenarios into structured assumptions, calculations, decision rules, and working code.
The ability to test model logic, debug code, and investigate unexpected results systematically, tracing a wrong number back to its root cause rather than patching the symptom.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
The ability to collaborate with consultants, facilitators, and developers, and to explain complex ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues.
Good written and spoken English.
An interest in interactive learning and in developing tools for corporate training.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of banking, insurance, or wealth management, including concepts such as interest margins, credit losses, claims, and group consolidation.
Experience writing automated tests (for example, Jest or Cypress) to protect calculations and catch regressions.
Experience with version control (Git), pull-request workflows, Docker, or application deployment.
Experience designing game mechanics, simulation models, dashboards, or interactive learning tools, including balancing decisions so outcomes are credible and no option is pointless or exploitable.
Familiarity with Python for data analysis or scripting.
Experience taking a project from initial concept through development, testing, and practical use.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome candidates from either of these backgrounds:
Business or analytical background: Experience in financial modelling, consulting, research, investment, business analysis, or a related field, supported by practical coding experience.
Software development background: Experience building software applications, supported by an understanding of business concepts and an interest in modelling how business decisions affect performance.
